WHILE PRIVACY STATEMENT
We exceed GDPR requirements for privacy and security, as well as unique requirements for Switzerland, UK, Australia, Brazil, and all US states.
These privacy standards apply to all While users regardless of where you live.
We only collect data to enable and improve While’s features, and to conduct research to benefit all meditators
Our sole focus is to create features that help people meditate more consistently and for longer sessions.
No creepy third-party services
We minimize the number of third-party services we use, and we don’t use services associated with Google, Amazon, or Facebook.
The third-party services that we do use meet or exceed our own standards for privacy and security.
The data we collect and how we use it
If you use While without an account:
- Usage data: App and feature usage are used to understand popularity and improve features
- Performance data: App crashes, and errors are used to identify and fix technical issues
- User content: Session data and times are used for us to provide you with historical analysis
- Device info: iPhone model, and iOS version are used to ensure optimal app performance
If you use While with an account:
- Personal info: While username, and email are used for account management and to provide you with support
If you are a Beta user:
- Health data: Heartbeat, ECG, and accelerometer data are used to conduct research into how meditation affects heart metrics (HRV and other analyses)
If you send us a message:
- User content: The information you sent to us in the email or Signal message are used to provide you with support and hear your feedback
Data encryption and security
The data on your iPhone is encrypted and only decrypted when While is in use. Your session and data are encrypted when stored on our servers and only decrypted when necessary to support product development. Our physical infrastructure, technical architecture, and processes are designed to address known vulnerabilities and include regular security updates.
Communication by email, not in-app alerts
You won’t receive in-app messages from us so that While is kept as your private space for meditation. We do hope you allow us to contact you by email or Signal for infrequent updates. We use Proton Mail for email.
